Dear Second Grade Families,
It has been an exciting and busy first few days of second grade!
Students have been busy getting to know one another, learning the routines of the classroom, and practicing good work habits. I have really enjoyed getting to know your children over these last few days! It has been nice to learn about families, pets, hobbies, and favorite things. We are off to a fantastic start!
Thank you to those families who have sent in earbuds or headphones. If you have not yet done so, please send them in as soon as you can. They will be kept at school for use in the classroom throughout the year.
Homework will begin next week. For now, please have your child continue to read each night. Reading silently or aloud to an adult at home is an important way to build and maintain reading fluency and comprehension. Also, having flashcards handy at home will help with basic fact practice. Second graders are expected to become fluent with addition and subtraction facts up to 20.
Our first Scholastic book order will be sent home next week. Ordering books for your child is a wonderful way to help us earn bonus points. These bonus points are used to get new books for our classroom library. The kids get very excited about new books each month! This month, all bonus points earned in our classroom will be donated to schools in Texas devastated by the hurricane. Cole School and Scholastic are working together to help rebuild classroom libraries in need of our help. Please consider ordering books this month!
I look forward to meeting you at Back-to-School Night for parents on Monday, September 18th at 6:00. See you then!
Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Estella
